Scores Killed and Injured in Stampede at Lag B’Omer Observances in Israel
April 30, 2021
A community in Israel is reeling after an accident at a religious festival. Tens of thousands of people had gathered to observe the holiday of Lag B'Omer. They sang, danced and lit bonfires. The crowd was densely packed in the narrow streets around the tomb of a 2nd century rabbi. A stampede resulted, and people were trampled, crushed and asphyxiated. First responders rushed to extricate the injured and take them to hospitals. At least 45 people were killed.
