Sesame Street Welcomes First Korean American Character, Ji-Young
Sunny days just got sunnier. Sesame Street has just added their first Korean American muppet in the show’s 52-year run. Ji-Young came after 2020’s protests against racism and a cultural shift calling for more inclusivity. “...It was very important that she was specifically Korean American, not just generically Korean, but she is born here, she embraces her culture, but she's also American," says her puppeteer, Kathleen Kim. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer explains.
