Singing Cop Rallies the Spirit of His Best Friend Battling COVID-19

When Tina Asmar was stricken with COVID-19, she thought she was going to die. That’s when her lifelong friend, Gary Eblan, a Boston Police lieutenant, had an idea. “The Queen song came on the radio and it just fit,” he said. He started belting out, “Tina, the champion, my friend,” to the tune of the classic “We Are the Champions.” He continued to adapt songs and customize lyrics to lift his friend’s spirit as she was stuck in the hospital. When she got out, Gary had a song ready for the moment.
