    More Than 8 Million People Die From Smoking Each Year: WHO

    WHO has released health numbers on what it calls “the tobacco epidemic.”  WHO’s latest information says, “Tobacco kills up to half of its users.” That’s more than 8 million people yearly, “including 1.3 million non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke.” Bans on tobacco advertising show promise in lowering a population’s tobacco use, as does raising taxes on tobacco products. There has been only a 5% drop in tobacco use in the last two decades.
