SNL’s Michael Che Pays Rent for 160 Public Housing Tenants to Honor Grandma

“Saturday Night Live” star host of “Weekend Update” Michael Che recently lost his grandmother to COVID-19, and now he’s making an incredible gesture in her memory. Che announced on Instagram that in honor of his beloved grandmother, he will be paying one month’s rent to everyone who lives in the New York City public housing building that she used to call home. The building, in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, has 160 apartments. Che also called on city officials to provide debt relief for residents.
