These Russians Are Braving the Cold in Annual Ice Bathing Tradition
January 20, 2019
It's going to take more than a little cold to scare these people away. More than 56,000 Russian Christians are taking the plunge into freezing rivers and ponds to celebrate the holiday of Epiphany. The water is supposed to have powerful effects, like cleansing the soul, strengthening faith, and even curing diseases. Luckily, these plungers don't have to be cold for long. There is always a tent in sight, where people can warm up, change clothes and drink a hot cup of tea.
