Underwater Volcano Erupts Off South Pacific Island of Tonga

An underwater volcano erupted off the South Pacific Island of Tonga. Video captured by satellite imagery showed a large ball of ash and smoke. Another satellite image showed what the nearby uninhabited island of Ha'apai looked like from before the eruption to afterwards. It seemed to have almost disappeared. The effects of the volcano eruption prompted Tsunami warnings from New Zealand to California. The explosion cut off communication with those living on Tonga so how it has affected the population there is still unknown.
