US Historic Events of the Early 2000s

Many historically significant events took place in the early 2000s. The Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks ushered in the decade. Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. President Barack Obama's first inauguration occurred in 2009. During his presidency, the “Miracle on the Hudson” brought many Americans together as they hailed Captain Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III a hero for saving the lives of 155 people when he managed to land a crashing airplane on the Hudson River in 2009.
