The Americans targeted in the Mexico massacre live in a remote and secretive community 70 miles south of the border with Arizona. They are descendants of Mormon fundamentalists who fled the United States in the 1890s when the church banned polygamy. Anna Lebaron's grandfather was the founder of the colony. Her father had 50 children with 13 wives. Anna was child number 39.
