An elected official in Tennessee made homophobic statements in a public meeting. Sevier County Commissioner Warren Hurst’s remarks were presumably made about openly gay presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg. The display caused Sarah Thompson, chair of the Sevier County Democrats, to walk out of the meeting in protest. “I was incensed,” she said. “That was a very demeaning and nasty thing to talk about.”
