As 'Descendant of Slavery,' SZA Commemorates Juneteenth Becoming a State Holiday
Sza helped ring in a major milestone in New Jersey. She was streaming on IGTV as Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation making the third Friday in June a state and public holiday to commemorate June 19, 1865. Juneteenth recognizes the end of slavery in America. Most states acknowledge the historic day, but few honor it as a state holiday. The 29-year-old singer is from New Jersey and spoke about growing up in Maplewood. Inside Edition Digital’s Leigh Scheps has more.
