The suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Halloway, 18, could be headed to the United States. Joran van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru. The country agreed to temporarily transfer custody of him so he can face charges of extortion and wire fraud for allegedly trying to get hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Halloway family in exchange for revealing the location of Natalee’s body.
