    As fire departments become overwhelmed by the enormous scale of the fires in Los Angeles, billionaires are reaching out to private firefighter companies that charge $2,000 to $10,000 an hour. The shopping mall in Pacific Palisades was untouched by the fire that destroyed so many homes in the neighborhood. It survived because the mall's billionaire developer hired a private firefighting company that used its own supply of water tankers to keep the fire from taking hold.
